STEM+Z is an science and sustainability focused outreach program that uses a apocalyptic plot line to teach STEM in low income areas of Dallas. STEM jobs are increasing at faster rates than other career fields; pockets of underserved communities are at a disadvantage to participate. STEM+Z uses hands-on activities and familiar pop culture themes to engage and inspire the next generation to explore STEM careers. As session concepts build on one another, students can link learned topics ranging from environmental to social, but more importantly they will develop the skillsets to propose sustainable solutions applicable to today's pressing global challenges.
